Pitfall in interpretation of TEG results.

چکیده
EDITOR: Thromboelastograph (TEG) displays the viscokinetic properties [1] of the clot formed, which in turn reflects the functions of different factors involved in the coagulation process [2] and also the interaction between these factors. TEG is considered to be better than the conventional coagulation tests [3] and is becoming more popular among perioperative clinicians in managing coagulopathies. TEG machines are often located away from the theatre where surgery takes place (often placed near cardiac/vascular theatre or cardiac ICU). When TEG is performed away from where patients are treated, results are often conveyed to treating clinicians by

Generalized lymph node activation after Influenza vaccination on 18F FDG-PET/CT imaging, an important pitfall in PET interpretation
We report on a 59-year-old female patient with an infected vascular graft investigated with 18F FDG-PET/CT. The first of two studies showed FDG activity in the left deltoid and ipsilateral axillary lymph nodes explained by influenza vaccination the day prior. The second 18F FDG-PET/CT showed multiple FDG-avid lymph nodes on both sides of the diaphragm without tracer accumulation at the vaccinat...
متن کاملReference values for kaolin-activated thromboelastography in healthy children.
BACKGROUND The hemostatic system of children changes with age and differs significantly from the hemostatic system of adults. Age-specific reference values are therefore required for most hemostatic variables. Thromboelastography (TEG) is a point-of-care coagulation test that may provide superior evaluation and management of coagulopathies after cardiac surgery, when large-dose unfractionated h...
متن کاملNasopharyngeal Carcinoma with Cystic Cervical Metastasis Masquerading as Branchial Cleft Cyst: A Potential Pitfall in Diagnosis and Management
Introduction:Most metastatic lymph nodes from head and neck malignancy are solid. Cystic nodes are found in 33% - 61% of carcinomas arise from Waldeyer’s ring, of which only 1.8% - 8% originate are from the nasopharynx. Some cystic cervical metastases were initially presumed to be branchial cleft cyst. This case report aims to highlight the unusual presentation of cystic cervical metastasis sec...
متن کاملTromboelastography: variability and relation to conventional coagulation test in non-bleeding intensive care unit patients
BACKGROUND Intensive care unit (ICU) patients usually have abnormal biochemical and hematological laboratory test results as a consequence of organ dysfunction and underlying disease. Thromboelastography (TEG®) is a point-of-care laboratory analysis that gives an overview of several aspects of the coagulation process. In order to be able to perform a clinical interpretation of abnormal TEG® res...
متن کاملEffect of ketorolac, bupivacaine and low-dose heparin on thrombelastographic variables in vitro.
We have studied the effects of ketorolac, bupivacaine and low-dose heparin on three thrombelastographic (TEG) variables (r, alpha, MA) in vitro. Blood samples were obtained from 12 healthy volunteers and 88 ASA I-II elective surgical patients. Clinically relevant concentrations of ketorolac (4.1 micrograms ml-1) and bupivacaine (2.7 micrograms ml-1) had little or no effect on the TEG variables....
